DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY

Science Faculty was established in 1971. Totality of arts and science was the high profile ambition of our founder father and the department of geography was an outcome of the same. The department of geography was established in 1982 with the affiliation of Art Faculty. Honorable founder visualized the future need and the speciality of the subject and permitted for the study of geography as a subject in arts faculty.
Dr. C.B. Pal to be appointed as pioneer lecturer in the subject. Under the able guidance of founder of the institution Dr. Pal nurtured the department very well. It was scholarly teaching of Dr. Pal that the number of students in the subject sustainably grew more and more. On the basis of the students strength in the subject second post of lecturer was created in the department by the directorate of higher education. Dr. Ishwari Prasad Pandey was appointed in the department.
After five years, Dr. Pandey got appointed in Govt. Degree College and quit the department. After resignation of Dr. Pandey the post was vacant and on that post Dr. Mangala Singh was appointed. After some time Dr. Singh was appointed in Vasant Mahila Degree College, Rajghat, Varanasi and the post was again vacant. In the last Dr. R.K. Pandey got appointed against that post and he is working till date.
As per need of the subject the department has well equipped laboratory. All the required instruments are available in the department. Recent books on geography according to the syllabus are available in the central library.

Both the faculty members are participating in national and international seminar and conferences, refresher and orientation courses for updating. Though the department provides educational programme at undergraduate level yet with collaboration with other PG departments affiliated to Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur and Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi. Both DR. Pal and Dr. Pandey are guiding research scholars for Ph.D. degree. Till now the department has produced five Ph.D. (2-in supervision of Dr. Pal and 3-in supervision of Dr. Pandey). Two research scholars (under supervision of Dr. Pal) have submitted their theses for the award of Ph.D. degree. Both the faculty members are engaged in active research and are regularly publishing research papers in several research journals.

COHSSIP was sanctioned to college by U.G.C. and Dr. Pal was coordinator of the scheme which was successfully completed. A minor research project sponsored by UGC was completed by Dr. R K Pandey.
